For Jess and June by ~Pandaura:iconPandaura:

Her life changed so much that day,
The day the strangers found their way
To the temple where Athena dwelt –
She never guessed that she would melt
At hair the color of setting sun
And she wondered, “Was he the one?”
This man who came from a far off land
Was this the touch of Cupid’s hand?
And he saw her in that golden glow
Her fairest hair cascading gold
With eyes of the most remarkable hue –
A summer’s sky of truest blue.
He, too, felt his own blood rush
As he was touched by love’s first blush
And before he ever knew her name,
Deep down he sensed she felt the same.
As a further gift from the Divine,
She would guide them for a time.
But could she stay upon her task
And do as the high priestess had asked?
Ignore her duty or give in to fire –
Could she snuff out her heart’s desire?
There was no need for her to choose
Their bond, even Fates could not refuse,
The Gods of Love grinned ear to ear
(and a romance writer was heard to cheer!)

Perhaps it was love’s good intention
That called forth someone’s intervention.
Was it because of love’s embrace
This priestess fell from Athena’s grace?
Was it Aphrodite’s smug knowing grin
That made Athena decide to win?
Did she set this course in motion
Because one strayed from her devotion?
Maybe a betrayal of trust took place
For the strangers ran a merry chase
Around the town to find the girl
Who’d made the young man’s heart unfurl.
But the sound of sorrow that split the air,
The voice of anguish, grief and despair,
Came from the depths of the young man’s heart
For the Fates had cut her strand apart.
He’d find the ones who’d done this deed
He’d make them for their own lives plead
Before he watched their eyesight fade
As their strands were snipped with scissor blade.

Now in a temple she awaits his claim
She knows his love for her still flames
To have her back, to hold her tight
To be his beacon in the night.
Would she have left her goddess bright?
Oh, yes, for him I think she might.
More than bonding of hearts, you know,
It was a joining of two souls.
They’ll find each other again, you’ll see,
And love throughout eternity.
For sometimes we’re set upon a road
And forced to carry a heavy load.
Sometimes that path may take a curve
And even the gods that we serve
Know in some plays they have no part
Or power over the human heart.

A poem done for 2 characters in a D&D game that I was involved in. We have an awesome storyteller and, though the two characters around whom this poem revolves were both NPC's, it was none-the-less emotional when this happened.

you don't have to play d&d to appreciate this. rhyming can sometimes ruin a work like this, but it's done so well it only makes it better. very good flow, great job!

don't worry about that, all my comments come from my close friends, it's not very easy to get noticed around here

Hey Pandaura! Well, at least you know that we're not just *saying* your poetry is good -- it really is! :)
